The official welcome ceremony for Amirabdollahian and his high-ranking delegation took place on Monday morning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan in the capital Islamabad.
Following the official ceremony, the two foreign ministers kicked off negotiations in which diplomatic delegations from Iran and Pakistan held talks on issues of mutual interest.
Amirabdollahian and Jilani are going to take part in a joint press conference after the meeting.
During Amirabdollahian's one-day visit to Pakistan, he will also meet Prime Minister of Pakistan Anwar ul Haq Kakar as well as General Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army.
This is the third visit by the top Iranian diplomat to Pakistan since the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi took office in 2021. He had paid a two-day visit to Islamabad and Karachi in summer.
